An Absorption Tower (also known as a Scrubber Tower, Gas Absorber, or Packed Absorber) is a vertical process equipment used to remove unwanted gases, vapors, or pollutants from industrial exhaust streams by bringing them into contact with a liquid absorbent. The gas flows through the tower while the absorbing liquid flows in the opposite direction, allowing efficient mass transfer and removal of contaminants. Absorption towers are widely used in chemical processing, fertilizer plants, pharmaceutical manufacturing, power plants, metal processing, and air pollution control systems to meet environmental regulations and improve process efficiency. An absorption tower operates on the principle of gas-liquid mass transfer. Contaminated gas enters the tower from the bottom and rises upward through specially designed packing media. Simultaneously, the absorbent liquid is distributed from the top and flows downward over the packing. As the gas and liquid come into contact, the unwanted gases dissolve into or react with the liquid. The cleaned gas exits from the top of the tower, while the contaminated absorbent is collected at the bottom for treatment, recycling, or disposal.
